Secondary and Adult Tutoring

Advanced Math
Our school-year tutoring utilizes a "look ahead" approach to subjects that many students find difficult. The student and tutor meet once or twice a week, depending on need, to review/reteach difficult concepts recently covered, while working through all or part of the student's homework. As time and/or desire permit, we preview upcoming concepts and assignments that may be difficult, and prepare students for quizzes and tests. This approach is a wonderful confidence booster for those students struggling in difficult classes, including advanced placement courses.

Pre-Algebra, Algebra I/II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus
Whether you or your young adult wants to preview the classes he or she is scheduled to take this fall, or has had difficulties with math classes in the past, these courses are designed to introduce or review advanced math concepts taught in local secondary and college math classrooms.

Pre-Algebra I/II covers solving for variables, understanding positive and negative integers, and adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions, decimals, and percents.  Pre-algebra II reviews computations with fractions, decimals, and percents.

Algebra I begins with a pre-algebra review, then continues with distributive rules for multiplication, writing equations for lines, placing points on number lines, understanding polynomials, and factoring polynomials.

Algebra II begins with an algebra I review on graphing linear equations, then goes on to cover the solving of pairs of equations, the computing of rational equations, the simplifying radical expressions, and the solving of radical equations.

Geometry begins with a review of algebraic skills necessary for solving postulates.  Theorems and proofs are introduced and reinforced throughout the study of circles, angles, volume, area, and coordinate planes.

Calculus begins with limits and continuity, followed by differentiation and integration.

Note: In some schools, a student may receive college credit if she or he passes the A.P. calculus test at the end of the session.

High School Course Credits
If your child is missing high school credits needed for graduation we can help. On-line courses may be the perfect solution if your child cannot take summer school, or make up classes after school. . Over the years we have helped many students with on-line courses through virtual high school programs. Many of the on-line courses are free for students through their home school district. On-line classes are self-paced courses utilized to make-up credits, or complete required credits ahead of time. We typically help students needing additional assistance and clarification with assignments in advanced math and science classes, and with English and history compositions.
